At Quality Flooring, we take pride in renovating spaces with craftsmanship and detail that highlight the natural beauty of timber. Our most recent project in St Kilda showcases how careful design and professional installation can turn a homeowner’s vision of beauty into a reality.
The Client’s Vision: Light European Elegance
The owner of this modern townhouse wanted a distinctly European look: a light-toned parquetry floor with the timeless Chevron pattern. Their goal was to enhance natural light throughout the space while keeping a refined, architectural feel in the halls and living areas. To complement this vision, we recommended our Engineered Chevron Parquetry in AB Grade European Oak, which has a uniform colour with subtle natural variation, making it ideal for a sophisticated yet welcoming interior.
Technical Overview of the Installation
This project involved a direct-stick installation, a method chosen for its stability, acoustic performance, and durability. To meet Australian standards, the subfloor was first levelled and moisture-tested. After preparing, our team applied a high-quality Bostik adhesive suitable for engineered timber, ensuring complete surface contact for maximum bonding strength.
The Chevron pattern requires precision from beginning to end. Each piece was meticulously aligned at a 45° angle to create the distinctive “V” shape that defines Chevron parquetry. This level of alignment demands both accuracy and experience, as even a slight deviation can disrupt the visual flow of the pattern.
Attention to Detail: Custom Borders and Finishing
The client also requested timber borders along the hallways, a feature often seen in traditional European homes. These borders not only frame the Chevron pattern but also enhance transitions between rooms and define the flow between spaces. The result is a clean, symmetrical layout that enhances the home’s architectural lines. The final look is understated and elegant, bright and warm, and wonderfully complements the St Kilda property’s character.
The Result: Modern Craftsmanship Meets European Tradition
